The Arrow of Light award is the highest award that can be earned in the Cub Scout program and it is one of only two awards that may be worn on the Boy Scout uniform when Webelos become Boy Scouts (the other is the Religious Emblem).^Joshua has been involved with Webelos for two years and his Arrow of Light ceremony was held at St. Bedes Church, Montgomery Alabama, on March 23rd, 2000.^In additon to the Arrow of Light, the boys also had a Cross Over ceremony which celebrates the boys cross over from Webelos to Boy Scouts. A wooden bridge was used in the ceremony to symbolize the crossing over from Webelos to Boy Scouts.^Use the right facing arrow below to step through the ceremony pictures.^Click the "Danielle's 9th Birthday" button to see her party pictures.
At the beginning of the ceremony, all the boys were called up to the stage and their parent stood behind them. The boys were commended for their hard work and the parents were thanked for their support. Josh and his dad can be located directly below the Indian Chief.
The boys were then called up on stage one at a time and a symbolic arrow and the Arrow of Light patch was presented to each one.
After receiving the Arrow of Light, the boys are ready for their cross over into the Boy Scouts. In this picture Josh is lining up and preparing for the cross over.
The cross over begins with the boys shaking the hands of their Den Leaders. The Den Leaders wish the boys good luck and remove the Webelos scarf. Then the boys cross the bridge and meet the Boy Scouts on the other side.
On the other side of the bridge the boys are met by a Boy Scout Leader and a scout. They remove the blue Webelos epilates from the boys shoulders.
Next, the red Boy Scout epilate is placed on the boys shoulders and the boys are welcomed into the Boy Scouts.
After the ceremony Joshua's Den posed for some pictures. From left to right: Ms. Maggie Royster (Den Leader), Josh, Michael Farmer, Joseph Saddler, Ryan Baker, Michael Royster, Mason Terry, Wes Bowden, Sean Vaught, Joshua Wine, and Michael Brett
After the ceremony, the boys gave Ms. Maggie a photo album containing hundreds of pictures of their years with her as their leader. Ms. Maggie christened the photo album with a few tears...
