She received her early education in the schools of Crawford County. She then moved with her family to Howell County, Missouri, where they made their home in the Pine Grove community, west of Willow Springs, where she finished her education in the Pine Grove School.
As a young woman she moved to Salida, Colorado and on July 3, 1927 was united in marriage to Ted R. Smith. In 1932 the family moved to the Flat Rock community in Douglas County, Missouri. At the residence she spent more than 50 years where she was active in the community and loved her neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ted, one son, Joe C. Smith, two brothers, Roy Winey and Clark Winey, and two sisters, Irene Vincent and Jennie Mae Biberdorf.
Zona will be sadly missed by her three sons, James A. and Susie Smith, Jerry E. and Ilene Smith, all of Willow Springs, Missouri, Bill R. and Donna Smith of Tulsa, Oklahoma, one daughter Edna "Becky" and Ralph Walker of West Plains, Missouri, 10 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and many more relatives and friends.
