Opal Smith services held

  Funeral services for Opal Bird Smith, 83, St. Joseph, and formerly of Dora, were at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph.
  Mrs. Smith died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at a St. Joseph hospital.  She was born Dec. 27, 1914, at Dora, the daughter of Ben J. and Melissa J. Bird.
  Mrs. Smoith had lived in St. Joseph since 1941.  A homemaker, she was a member of the Church of Christ and was a volunteer for Interfaith Community Services for many years.
  Survivors include one daughter, Marge Lawhon, St. Joseph; two sister, Oma Nash, Dora, and Sedalla Hall, West Plains; and two grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husand William L. Smith, who died in 1973; two brother Champ and Jim Bird; one sister Velvie Hollingshed.
  Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetry under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel.
