| Willow Springs News L. L. Roberts crushed by load of ties. Dies Instantly when truck overturns near Pine Creek. Larkin Roberts killed as truck loaded with ties capsizes about six miles north of Willow Springs on the north Pine Creek road, near what is known as the old Tom Cox farm. Mr. Roberts was returning to Willow Springs from Pine Creek with a load of ties last Saturday morning when climbing a small incline it is supposed that an extra transmission that he had on his truck gave way. letting the truck run backwards down the incline turning over a small embankment where the load of ties pitched forward on his body killing him instantly, he only groaned once or twice, then he was dead. The Burns Undertaking Company was called and his body was brought to Willow Springs to be prepared for burial. Mr. Roberts was born near Houston, Mo, on Oct 21, 1872 and died Aug. 3, 1929 at the age of 56, and was one of our very best citizens, have lived in and near Willow Springs the most of his life. He hadn't accumulated much of this worlds goods, but he was a hard worker and honest in every detail. For many years he farmed in the noth part of the county, but moved to Willow Springs several years ago to educate his children, the most of whom are married now are good desirable citizens. The family were all to have been at home last Sunday for a family reunion. Two of the married daughter were on there way home from Chicago, when the accident occured and did not know of their fathers death until they arrived in Willow Springs. The son, Hubert Roberts and wife who was formerly, Miss Leola Lovan who now resides at Lincoln, Neb., were in Willow Springs, visiting at the time of the accident. Mrs. Roberts was formerly Miss Swecker and she with her seven children survive the deceased, they are: Hubert L. Roberts of Lincoln, Neb., Mrs. Edna Vogt and Mrs Hazel Hicks of Chicago, Ill; Mrs. Mabe Ogle of Detroit, Mich.,' Freed, Glen and Leola Fern of the home addres. he is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Roberts of Mtn. Grove; 5 sisters, Mrs. Minnie Pickering of Mtn. Grove; Mrs. Mary Denny and Mrs. Frank Luttrell of Willow Springs; Mrs. Tillie Swecker of Stoneborrough, Pa.; Mrs. Mart Fleming of Springfield; 2 brother, Jim Roberts of Des Moines, Iowa and John Roberts of Los Angeles, Calif. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Light at the Baptist Church Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. and burial was made at the City cemetery. Mr. Roberts leaves a host of friends to mourn his loss, but their loss is his eternal gain, for beyond a doubt he is enjoying the presence of his maker and that eterna masion, not made with hands. |
