John Wesley Johnson dies at age 96

John Wesley Johnson, 96 years old and one of the oldest residents of Howell county, died at the home of his son in law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Calvin Thompson, three miles northeast of West Plains at 10:50 o'clock last night. He had been ill the last six weeks.
Mr Johnson, who had been a resident of Howell County the last 46 years, during which time he had lived in and near West Plains, was born April 16, 1846, in Cleveland County, Alabama, and came from Alabama to West Plains in March 1896.
He was married in 1887 to Miss Electra Emmaline Reyer, who died here Sept 13, 1922. Two sons, Alonzo and King preceded the aged man in death, but he is survived by six daughters and three sons, who are Mrs Charles Lung, Mrs John Jones, Mrs Calvin Thompson, Mrs Ray Aborn, Mrs James Parker, Ab Johnson, Hugh Johnson, James Johnson, Riley Johnson, all of West Plains, and Mrs Myrtle Holmes of Kensley, Kansas.
Also surviving are 39 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral Tomorrow
Funeral services will be held at Evergreen church, eight miles south of West Plains at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Paige Robertson of Robertsons Funeral Home. The body will lie in state at Robertson Funeral home until time for the funeral.
All of the sons and daughters will be present for the funeral with the exception of the daughter in Kansas.
