| Obituary for James Marion Roberts Shenandoah, Iowa Paper. Funeral services for James M. Roberts, Grant township constable for 23 years who died at his home here Saturday were held at 2 P.M. Monday in the Harding Funeral Home with the Rev. Loyal Hiatt officiating. Burial was in North Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Grover Hankins and Mrs Eddie Holmen sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden", accompanied by Mrs. Sam Harrel. On the flower committee were Mrs. Lyle Powles, Mrs. Orvis Jennings, and Mrs. Dorothy Barnett. Bearers were Floyd Blackman, Wayne Blackman, Everett Blackman, Lyle Powles and Orvis Jennings. James Marion Roberts, son of John and Teressa Roberts was born May 21, 1876, and died at the age of 83. In 1897, he was united in marriage to Frances Blackman in Willow Springs, Mo. To this union were born six children. Mr. Roberts joined the Baptist Church in Willow Springs, Mo when he was 21 years old. The early years of his life were spent in Mo, the later years in Mill and Page counties, Iowa. Surviving are his wife, Frances, three sons, Clarence and Floyd of Council Bluffs, Ia and Ross of Denver, Colorado. Two daughters, Eunice, now Mrs Aaron Crouse of San Diego, Ca and Adeline, now Mrs. Thomas Burns of Malvern, Ia. There are also five sisters: Emma Luttrell of Willow Springs, Mo; Mary Dennis of Willow Springs, Mo; Martha Flemmings of Springfield, Mo; Tillie Swacker of Ithica, Mi; Grace Slater of St. Louis, Mo. An infant son, two brothers, his mother and father preceded him in death. |
