Obit: David Collins was born in Douglas County, MO, August 3, 1849, and died at his home near Shinkle, on the Siloam Springs Road, Sunday, January 6, 1918, at midnight. In 1868 he was married to Miss Sarilda Hopkins and to this union were born eight children, three of whom are living. After the death of his wife in 1882, he was married to Jane Collins, who bore him nine children, eight of whom, with the widow, survive him. He was one of the early settlers in Howell County and owned one of the best farms in the neighborhood and was also in the merchantile business. He took an active part in public affairs, being interested in schools and was for many years a member of the Republican County Committee. Being a good businessman, he was frequently consulted by his neighbors and relatives. The funeral was held by the Rev. D. W. Epley Monday afternoon, interment being in the Collins graveyard.
