Biography:
Father's (Royston Lewis Dowling) parents came from the Dublin area of the Republic of Ireland and settled in London, England. Mother (Beryl Grace Wood) was from Birmingham, in the West Midlands area of England.
Born in Walthamstow, Essex, England and lived there until seven, when family emigrated to Canada. Since that time, lived in the greater Toronto area in Ontario.
Attended Primary school and secondary school in Aurora, Ontario, then studied computer science at the University of Waterloo.
Both before and during university, did a lot of peer counselling for people with relationship and drug problems. Found the counselling a lot more fullfilling than the math involved with computer science. Dropped out of University and began working with disturbed children in residential treatment.
In 1977, returned to school, completed a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at York University and a Master of Social Work degree at Wifrid Laurier University, and in 1981 began to work as a counsellor for a family service agency. |
Now lives in Penetanguishene, Ontario. Since 1999, has been retired from working as an addictions counsellor. Also has a private practice in providing individual, marital and family therapy.
Became disabled in 1999 as a result of a stroke.

Founding Chair, Board of Directors, Rosewood Shelter for Women and Their Children. Former member of Simcoe County Child Abuse Council and Ontario Association of Professional Social Workers. Founder of Midland Duplicate Bridge Club. Previously active Member of Twin Lakes Motor Club
Played tournament bridge for several years, winning Canadian "Flight C Teams" in 1990 and Canadian "Flight C Pairs" in 1991.
Competed in Solo II events with Twin Lakes Motor Club, driving 1990 Mazda MX-5 Miata. Won rear wheel drive championship in 1995, class 3 championship 1997 and class 2 championship 1998. |
