This page is deticated to the first-generation Mitsubishi Eclipse (1990-1994).
The Mitsubishi Eclipse was first developed in 1989 to be released as a 1990 model.
The first generation Eclipse was avalable in four packages. The base model Eclipse (Like mine) came with a 1.8L non-turbocharged 4 cylender engine. The Eclipse GS is the next in line. it came with a more powerful 2.0L DOHC Engine. Next up is the Eclipse GST. It came with the same engine as the GS, but adds an intercooled turbocharger to the package to give the car even more power. The top of the line Eclipse GSX is the same as the GST, but it is all wheel drive.
The first-gen Eclipse style stayed pretty mutch the same, except in 1992, the pop-up headlights were dropped in favor of the more areodynamic style lights. the body also got smoothed out to increase airflow arround the car.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse has two "sister" cars as well. The Eagle Talon and the Plymoth Laser. All three cars were built by Diamond Star Motors (DSM) and they were all pretty mutch the same.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse is the only one out of the three sister cars that is still in production today.
