Margaret Ann's Old Fashion
macaroni and cheese

This is not your regular run of the mill macaroni and cheese.
My grandmother Margaret Ann Hembree Baxter made
this when I was a kid. I never thought that years later my
uncle James Baxter (her son) would still have the recipe,
which he passed on to me in a family cook book.

bar

Ingredients:

2 TBSP......flour
1/4 SP.....pepper
2 TSP .......dry mustard
1 Cup ........milk
1/2 lb....... sharp cheddar cheese
8 oz (1 & 3/4 Cups) .........elbow macaroni
1/2 Tbls cooking oil (optional)

Instructions:

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees

1- Cook macaroni and drain.
2- Mix flour, pepper and mustard, until smooth
3- Grease a baking pan with cooking oil (the pan size should allow for the macaroni to be about 2" deep)
4- Put cooked macaroni in pan
5- Pour milk mixture over macaroni and stir
6- Slice cheese and place it generously over the top of the macaroni
(if you really like it cheesy, as I do, put only 1/2 the macaroni in the pan, put a layer of cheese over it, then add the rest of the macaroni with another layer of cheese on top)

7- Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, or until
it bubbles and the cheese on top is brown.
When it's on the table, "call me"

If you have an "old fashion" family recipe that you would like to share, along with any story associated with it, email it to me and I'll put it up on our site.

Let me know how you liked it!
