Developmental Speech Apraxia
Developmental Speech Apraxia is a speech disorder in which a person has trouble saying what he or she wants to say correctly and consistently.  Some experts believe DAS (in children) is a disorder related to a child's overall language development.  Others believe it is a neurological disorder that affects the brain's ability to send the proper signals to move the muscles involved in speech.

The above definition was obtained from The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.

Some believe that these neurological deficiencies can be manually connected by the exercises you will learn from your speech pathologist and the speech-language links provided.

We found that Jake showed improvement in plateaus.  We would work and train diligently, with not much success.  Then, he would say his targets at quite the most suprising and unprompted moments.  My husband and I would look at each other and realize......"IT REALLY IS SINKING IN!!!! WHOOPIE!!!!"

You could find some "unprovoked" successes at family reunions, parties or seasonal gatherings where your child is exposed to people who don't hear him/her every day.  I'll bet you will get many happy suprise utterings along your way.  I'd like to hear of your suprise successes.

There is always hope!  You just keep on keeping on!!!!
