CONT'D

I was admitted once again to the hospital when the 2 and a half weeks of prednisone did not work. I spent my time from January to March of 2001 in the hospital on IV prednsione, IV flagyl, and TPN through a picc line which was inserted again. I was on no food but yet the inflammation still did not get better, as farther testing revealed. Slowly i started to eat again, and came home.

I got off the prednisone around the middle of may, and then in July, I had an enteroscopy for the very first time. During this, they found mild inflammation in my jejunum. I also had a scope of my pouch, and there was mild inflammation in my pouch, as well as in the ileum leading to my pouch.

In August I was admitted to hospital again, this time with Toro-Virus. I had diarrhea, nausea, fevers, etc. In September I was still having problems, so I had to have yet another scope of my pouch. The same thing was found as with the previous scope.

UPDATE: JANUARY 4, 2004 -

I have not updated in a while as things have been hectic. I am now 17 years old, and am still living with the j-pouch.
My most recent hospitalization was exactly a year ago from today... I picked up a very bad intestinal virus and was in the hospital for 2 weeks on IV fluids and anti-nausea medications. The virus went away and I am now back to how I was before the virus.

I recently started seeing a new surgeon who specializes in IBD. I have had a few tests with him, and nothing has showed. Next week I will be having yet another scope to see how the inside of my pouch looks. I am currently taking Probiotics ("Jarro-Dophilus EPS capsules) as well as Flagyl, Imodium, and Depo Provera injections (for pelvic pain, possibly caused by endometriosis). If things do not improve soon, I am seriousely considering having more surgery to return to the ileostomy.
My life has many ups and downs because of this j-pouch and I would like to have a more stable and healthy life. I guess we will see what life brings me in the next couple months and go from there. I am planning a trip to Italy in March of this year and am not planning on doing anything drastic before then. In addition, this is my last year of High School and I do not want to screw it up by missing too much school for surgery.
