PORS
3rd Anniversary Party and Show and Tell to be held at Pat and Den
Suplee’s home on June 23rd at 3PM
Members of the Philadelphia Oriental Rug Society
are invited to the home Pat and Den Suplee to celebrate the 3rd
Anniversary of PORS and to share their Oriental rug interests with fellow PORS
members.
Bring a rug/textile or
two that especially interests you.
Please be kind enough to share what you know about it, possibly; where
it is from, its design and structural characteristics, age, any restorations,
its intended use, as well as when, where and why you acquired it. We don’t want
to you put you on-the-spot but do want to stimulate some interesting rug talk.
At this meeting, we will
also elect a new Steering Committee and canvas for program ideas. Please come
ready to volunteer yourselves and your ideas.
A light supper buffet will be served with champagne
to toast our three successful years of operation. Call George Trotman (215-985-0889)
by June 13th with your reservation since we need to give numbers to
the caterer. Directions and a map are below.
ICOC Rug Club Exhibit
In view of the apparent lack of interest by other
rug clubs; the significant projected costs to PORS; and that there is as yet no
scheduled deadline for the selection of pieces to be exhibited, PORS is not
moving forward to formally participate in the Washington ICOC next April.
Fall Events
We are considering kicking off our fall with a trip
to the
ACOR 6 Report
ACOR 6 recently held in
A new feature in the focus sessions, “Out of the
Cedar Chest – Off the Wall” was terrific. Mike Tschebull, Gerald Paquin and
Mark Hopkins showed and discussed pieces from there own collections. They
invited hands on participation by the audience. This feature should be tried by
all rug clubs.
Dealers’ Row was in a new setting. Rather than
using a hotel room as their exhibit space each of the 70+ dealers had their own
booth with well lit and displayed pieces.
Some, however, missed the old intimacy of chatting and making deals in a
dealer’s space much like the Istanbul Bazaar. Prices were much higher than in
the past. Any decent Anatolian piece had a price tag of $10,000, including
fragments.
I am very much looking forward to ACOR 7 in
