Ellen Amirkhan Highlights Components of Rug Identification

On April 13^th, Ellen Amirkhan, the conference chair for the current International Society of Appraisers annual meeting in Philadelphia, will highlight features of Oriental rug identification. Ellen will look past design motifs and will talk to equally important identification elements including: types of knots, materials, structure, colors, end and side finishes and size.
A third generation rug specialist, Ellen is a member of the International Society of Appraisers and a Certified Rug Specialist with the Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration. She has lectured in numerous locales including New York, San Francisco, Boston, Atlanta, and West Palm Beach.  Ellen is the recipient of the ASCR Helen Bradley Distinguished Service Award.

 

From Center City or New Jersey
Take the Schuylkill Expressway (76) West, bear right onto Route 1 (Roosevelt Blvd.) North. Exit at Wissahickon Avenue (the first exit). Follow service road 300 feet and make a right into parking lot.

From King of Prussia
Take the Schuylkill Expressway (76) East, bear right onto Route 1 (Roosevelt Blvd.) North. Exit at Wissahickon Avenue (the first exit). Follow service road 300 feet and make a right into parking lot.

Traveling South on Roosevelt Blvd. (Rt. 1)
Exit at Fox Street, make left at first light, left at second light, follow street 300 feet and make a right into parking lot.

Traveling East on Wissahickon Ave.
Cross over Route 1 North (Roosevelt Blvd.), continue to first light, Roberts Street, make a right and proceed 400 feet to rear entrance.

Chairmanship

Samy Rabinovic has volunteered to take over as the Chairman of the Philadelphia Oriental Rug Society as of our April 13th meeting.. As I noted in last October's Newsletter it is time for me to step aside. Who should we select as PORS Chairman? 

I enthusiastically nominate Samy Rabinovic. Samy efforts have been a vital in our successes; including his arranging for numerous speakers, hosting a PORS session at his home, overnight hosting of certain speakers and serving as Membership Chairman. I heartily recommend his selection on April 13th. But we should not ask too much of Samy. I am sure that he would welcome volunteers to get newsletters copied and in the mail, someone to assume audio/visual equipment responsibilities, and perhaps a new Membership Chairman.
