Deb's Birth Story
There are no words to describe this gift that was given to us! A Surro Angel, handed us this beautiful, healthy boy for us to love! How do you express words to a woman who gives you so much, I dont think there are words and I know that Thank you is just not adequate. I will tell you the story of his arrival.

On Friday, January 24, we proceeded to the hospital for a second attempt at induction. Brandy had attempted the week before without much success. We left home around a half hour later than the last attempt, thinking we had lots of time and were not in the need to hurry! After the failed attempt, we were a little leery about getting our hopes up for a successful day! Apprehensive I guess is the correct word.

On the way, Henry and I talked about whether or not we thought this would work and I had told him I would only get excited if they were able to break her water this time.

We arrived at the hospital around 8:50, and found Brandys room right away, she and Jason and a nurse were all there. She had arrived there at 7 AM. I asked how things were going so far, and she said better, and the nurse said, Today is the day! Brandy then went on to explain that the doctor was able to reach her water today and things were happening today for sure! Then I got excited.

We sat and visited for a while and the contractions were getting a little bit stronger. The nurse asked us to time them and see how many she had in 15 minutes. After that count which consisted of 6 in 15 minutes, they asked her at 9:40 to walk a bit. We then went to the end of the hall to wait out the rest of the labour. I had brought a bag with some magazines for Henry and I to read and we sat down for what we thought was going to be the long haul! A few minutes later, Brandy and Jason walked by, and Brandy smiled and continued on her way!

We visited with a few people in the waiting room and then at 10:15, only 35 minutes after we sat down there, the paramedic who was going to help deliver the baby arrived and informed us we better get back to the room because the baby was coming! In complete disbelief Henry and I gathered our stuff and shoved it back in the bag and headed down the hallway!

We entered the room, which now had been transformed into a delivery room complete with all instruments and tools ready for the job at hand.

Brandy was at this point saying she was ready to push, yet the doctor had not arrived. She was trying so hard to focus on breathing and not pushing and when we talked we distracted her, she was so brave and strong. After the nurse realized the doctor was not going to make, she tried to set Brandys mind at ease and explained she was fully capable to deliver this baby, but first Brandy needed to let go of her arm! Brandy then told her that the baby was coming and the nurse said Yes I can see that! He was crowning already at this point. LOL

From the time we entered the delivery room to the time the baby was born, it was only 9 minutes. The baby had crowned and the head was delivered before any major pushing had occurred. From my viewpoint, I could see his little scrunched up face and was in love already! After some pushes, and I think it was just one continuous push, his shoulders were out and the rest was just instant, he was on the table and grunting and snorting. They rubbed him a bit and asked who wanted him, Brandy tried to explain that she wanted to be able to hand him to me but the nurse didnt quite understand that, and handed him to me, I re-directed him to Brandy, she gave him a little squeeze and handed him to me. Henry came over and we just admired him, he was so perfect!

Nobody really wanted to cut the cord, so the nurse did that for us, while we had our hands on him! They then brought him to the warmer and gave him the once over and that was when I noticed the doctor had arrived. She continued to let those already working, do their job, and came to look the baby over first. He was then weighed and he was a whopping 9 lbs 10oz! It wasnt until much later that they measured him, but he measured 21 inches long.

Shortly after delivery, I sat in a chair in the room and proceeded to breast feed him. He latched on so well, and had his first feed. It was a few minutes after that, that Brandy decided to get Silly as the nurse put it! Her blood pressure plummeted and she got nauseous and very pale. They asked us to leave with the baby and go to the waiting room. So away we went with our bundle! He had not been bathed or anything at this point! But we sat with him and admired him and fell in love!

After about an hour, Brandy started to feel better and we were allowed back in his room! We were so happy to see that Brandy was getting back to normal! The nurse took Jaxon to be measured and checked out, and when they brought him back, they said it was bath time, I didnt realize I was going to have to do it, but it was fun, and Jason got it all on video for us! What a treat to have that footage of him so soon after delivery.

I stayed with Brandy in her room on Friday night, on a mat on the floor! Jaxon stayed on the mat with me, he would not sleep at all! After a couple of hours, the nurses took him and a bottle of expressed breast milk to the nurses station and let us get a few hours of sleep!
In the morning, the doctor said she was going to keep him in an extra day cause he was running a bit of a temperature. So in the afternoon Brandy made arrangements for her to go home and Jaxon and I stayed. They gave me Brandys room and treated me as a guest. Jaxon was in the nursery and I was able to feed him till around 8:30 that evening when they released him back to my care in the room. We stayed that night and were released the next morning!

We arrived home around 4 on Sunday! He had a very good night. He slept from 11:30 to 3:45! I was impressed.
