The twins have arrived! I am working on writing a birth story and also about the days leading up to and the days after the birth, but until that gets finished, I wanted to let anyone who has been following my journal know that they are here.
Michael (they decided to spell it "ae" instead of "ea" so now I have to go back and change my whole journal!!) and Michelle were born on December 22, 2001 at 11:55am and 12:07pm after 3 hours of labor (woohoo!). Michael weighed 7lbs even and Michelle was the little peanut at 6lbs even. I was 38 weeks 1 day.
Michelle is doing really well and my IPs are thrilled with their little princess. Unfortunately Michael isn't doing so well. He spent his whole first day in the NICU because he wasn't breathing well at birth and because they discovered a heart murmur. He was transferred to a hospital in Edmonton on the 23rd where he was to get more testing done. Unfortunately I got a call later that day that they had found a major defect in his heart (one of his valves is extremely tiny). He went for surgery on the 24th where they put a balloon into his valve to try and stretch it. I went there to sign all the forms for him as our hospital is still refusing to recognize my IPs as his parents (although the hospital in Edmonton is MUCH better than the one in Red Deer). The surgery went quite well, and now he has to go for another surgery tomorrow to fix a blood vessel that is too narrow. Please keep little Michael in your prayers.
