KHO BALI: We have up dated our satellite receiver. Before we had a fixed 2 meter dish and an analogue receiver. It was locked on to the Palapa C/Koreasat satellite.  Originally it had 5 channels including Australia Tv.  Over the last year all but 2 including Aus Tv. have disappeared so it was pretty useless. Recently we had a man and his assistant over from Rudy Electronic to install a new digital receiver, new LNB, an actuator and a   splitter so we can still use the analogue receiver. The dish can now swing from east  to about the same azimuth   west. We now receive the new ABC Australia.

JACKY HAIRCUT
THE NEW LOOK
Jacky the builder featured  in our New Year edition has had his hair cut. Not sure it is for the better. (inset original long hair)
Bear....   I assume you had an uneventful return to paradise. I now know of a website which has all the info you want (and more!) about the re-vamped ABC TV & RA SATELLITE SERVICE. All you need is a digital satellite receiver. During World War 2, technically inclined diggers made digital satellite receivers rom jam tins, razor blades and blunt pencils. I know that's true because I read it on the internet. www.asiapacific.com Geoff White ... Received both your latest letters, have been up to my bottom lip in work etc I will be free- lancing again and working with a former client I did stuff or at Digiline, making learning CD's for motor mechanic apprentices and similar. Very nice to have a new fridge and a washing machine, you know I have always said that you are a mad impetuous fool and that just goes to prove it. Ian Harvey ....Haven't heard for awhile - we are all well - the guys went back too school last week but I'm still on holidays - lucky me- we came back from Pambula - the weather was terrible but that's the way it is we went via Numurkah  for some real r & r and also pick up the dog. This is Dougal -
he says hello he's 7 months old and quite well trained - very smart

Our friend Dewa Bagong plays guitar.
Indonesians love to sit around at night and play Dangdut music. Not heard by many tourists in Bali. You have to  visit a local village to hear this exciting music. The many incursions of foreign  influence, Hinduism and  Buddhism from the 3rd to 14th century, Islam from  the 11th to 15th century,  Portuguese in the 16th  century, Dutch from the 17th century to World War II, and short-term   occupations by the British  and Japanese, have all left musical legacies that are  discernible in today's vast spectrum of folk and popular music. Dangdut developed and is still popular today. It can be heard blaring from the loudspeakers of bemos, storefront TV and, at night, from karaoke bars. As in rock music, there is a fairly wide range of music that gets classified as dangdut , an onomatopoeic word (dang-dut dang dang! ) that refers to its modern, hard-edged dance rhythm. The instrumentation and song forms of today's dangdut are obviously influenced by rock music, but it has its roots in orkes melayu , a syncretic ensemble music that combined Malay and Western elements, as well as in Indian film music and urban Arab pop.

Doug Donaldson.... Your system must be ok as I got the first message. I am in Peru and will be meeting Trenton and Carolyn in a week Keep well. Ian Davey.... Elizabeth R put together quite an amazing film programme for me and I tried to send it to you as a zip file but I'm afraid it was to much for Mega net to handle. They very kindly sent it back to me.  Its in the for of an A4 sheet folded showing my film/DVD programme till the end of August. She has done a marvellous job of it. She did it over last week end while Pete, Kay and I were at Seaspray helping a friend with his roof. She had searched the net for visual info to make it more interesting.  A really nice effort. I will be sending it to everyone Wai-man Lam is constructing a web site for the programme as well and looks quite good. I will give you details of it as soon as he has finished with it.
