BALI: Yes we can’t help ourselves, we are at it again. This time we are renovating the master bedroom to bring it up to standard and in line with the luxurious guest room. See artists impression (right) Fortunately Indonesian builders never follow plans or architectural drawings so

Builder Nur chisels
there is no chance it will  look this bad. Complete with a huge 350 mm Tv multi standard Tv and LG high efficiency air conditioning. The Annex now becomes the KHO office  with computer & new safe. Building commenced March 27. Builders Nur & Jenal from the now completed project over the street are
on the project.  They are both from Bangawangi, Java. Nur (27) is married with one child His wife works in Denpasar, Bali as a waitress.  The child is with the family in Bangawangi.  Janal (20 single) is Nur’s assistant, he loves dundut music, soccer & is looking for a girlfriend. (note girls!) First the old wall was bricked up, false ceiling, rare teak paneling installed to the roof & walls, new window then floor tiles replaced. The old ceiling fan has been refurbished & spray painted British racing green. It is anticipated the project will be complete in another week. Things move slowly in Bali.

Airbus A380
The A380’s twin-aisle twin deck passenger cabin offers the long distance traveler a whole new level of comfort. A cabin designed around a large sample of today's real passengers providing more space regardless of class of ticket, wider seats and aisles. Optional lower deck use for rest areas, business, bar or other amenities can further enhance the A380 travel experience. Qantas has ordered the aircraft, as have Singapore Airlines, who have already commenced to build Terminal 3 at Singapore airport to accommodate the huge wing span and passenger loads. Initially the aircraft will be configured with 555 seats.  It is eventually planned to
stretch the aircraft to 1000 seats. Airbus Industries expect the aircraft to fly in 2004'ish. The aircraft has a range of  14,800 kms.
Boeing
fights back
Boeing does not believe there is a market for a huge plane as the Airbus A380, they plan to revamp the tried & true Boeing B747 Below the latest proposal of for the B 747+. Storing galley carts on the upper deck, more seats can be crammed into the main deck. Crew sleep areas could be used as an extra salable lux for passengers. There is sufficient space for a 6 ft person to stand on both decks.
NEW KHO SAFE
The KHO now has a new 269 kg, 2 ft (6o cm high) Indonesian made fireproof safe. It has a very interesting combination. We don't plan to keep anything in it as we are told often they jam and you cannot open the safe. We actually keep the money under the bed. The safe is an excellent decoy.
Vice-Regal
March was a busy social month at the KHO. Early in the month John & Jamal attended a dinner given in our honor at Vila di Umas by Erna  our friend from Holland. Late March we gave a farewell party for the
building boys across the road, much arak was drunk. Farewell parties were given at Warung Sobat for Ines, who is holidaying in the US and for Robert who is visiting Australia. A formal 3 course dinner was given at the KHO for our Austrian friends Manfred & Gabie.

Balinese New Year
Yes its that time of the year again to celebrate Balinese New Year. The Balinese year is 12 months of 35 days, making the year  420 days. Balinese New year is a stark contrast to the western new year. We must stay in our houses from midnight April 12 until dawn April 14, no light must be visible at all during the 2 nights. No one is allowed on the streets and the airport will be closed.
We will remove the bed from the guest room, put mattresses   on the floor, move the re- frigerator in there & blacken the window.. The room has air- conditioning & there is a Tv.
We are hoping to have a few house guests and so make the best of the “celebration” After Nyepi we will celebrate Galungan & Kuningan which happens twice a Balinese year.
Ines on Hols
Ines is having a months holiday in the US & Canada, she is especially flying back to Bali to celebrate Nyepi!
Ines (R) & friend Sheila enjoy a cruise. British Columbia Ferry to Victoria on the Easter weekend.
Jamal Commissioned
Jamal has been commissioned by the KHO acquisition officer to paint 3 landscapes for the new bedroom.
BALI: Two weeks ago I took a digital photo of the main bedroom of the KHO, pre- renovation. Much to my surprise there appeared to be a ghost on the right hand side of the picture. Although we know it is probably just a lens flare it is a coincidence that the figure looks like a Balinese dancer. Jamal  had a great time bringing people in from the street to see. Most of them were quite convinced it is a ghost. I actually believe it is a flying saucer.
Waitress Wayan has returned to Warung Sobat. Bert in Manly will be happy. 3 special party nights will be held to celebrate the Balinese hols. Apr 12,23 & Mar 3 Don’t miss it-bookings Bali 0816 578924
Computer Crash
The KHO computer crashed after it was moved for the bedroom renovation. The hard disk would not run or re-load windows. A new 10 Gb hard disk was installed and all data except previous emails were recovered. Therefore there is no “Your emails” column this month.
