Boulder Creek Young Men’s Basketball Rules

Purpose:  To provide a safe environment for young men to enjoy fellowship, develop character, and interact in a competitive, physical activity

1.      If boys are finished with their school basketball season (JV or lower only, no Varsity), then they are allowed to play in the tournament.  Varsity players are not allowed at any time and JV or lower are only allowed after their season is finished.  Coaches must play everyone fairly on the team and allow equal time as much as possible.

2.      For tournament play, all payers must be living in the ward boundaries and rosters must reflect this.

3.      We encourage Bishops to involve fathers in the YM sports program.  Make sure all fathers receive a copy of the schedule-with a special invitation to attend all their games.

4.      Player eligibility is up to the Bishops, but we are strongly encouraging that young men members of the church be eligible to play if they have attended at least 50% of their mutual activites each month.  Non-members can ply but must follow the same guidelines and attend 50% of either mutual night activities or Sunday meetings.

5.      We want the sports program to enhance the regular YM program not be the YM program.  Practices should be held other times than during Mutual night activities.

6.      A Priesthood leager other than the coach will attend all games and be ont eh bench with the team.  We a member of the bishopric or an advisor.

7.      Games will have two 16 minute halves with the tcolock stopping to shoot the fouls, for time outs and the last 2 minutes of the game at each whistle.

8.      Games wills tart on time.  Game time is forfeit time.

9.      A team may start with 5 players otherwise the game is forfeited.

10.  No profanity will be allowed or tolerated.  There will be an automatic ejection of a player from the game the first time he swears; there will be no warnings.

11.  If a player gets two technical fouls in one game, he is out of the game and will be allowed to return to play in the future only after an interview with his bishop and stake leader.  If one technical, player sits out of game a mandatory 4 minutes.

12.  18 year olds can choose to play on the men’s team but cannot play on both the YM and Men team.  They must choose one or the other at the beginning of the season.

13.  Age limits are 14-18 with no one 19 years old playing no matter when their birth is.  12-13 year olds can play if your ward does not have enough to field a team without them.

14.  All games will have stake called officials and no game will be played without them.

15.  All games will start and end with prayer.
