Interview of Teachers
This competency means that the teacher understands the diversity in the class and is able to foster a learning environment for all students.  The classroom dynamics due to the differences in cultures and socioeconmic differences make it vital that I understand how to teach these students. Assessments  must be different for the inclusion and other at risk students in the class.  Student diversity was addressed in several assignments in this class.  Reading Reflection for Chapter 2 evidenced this domain.  Field experince 2 required the intervieiwing of two teacher on diversity and their observations in the classroom.
The standards and competency refer to the ability of the teacher to a class conducive to a student's learning.  The climate of the class depends on the teacher characteristics either poitive or negative.  The teacher must genuinely like the students, care about the content and create a safe atmosphere for the students.  Physical arrangements of the desk are included in the atmosphere.    Classroom management is another  key area of this standard.  Class conduct rules need to be fair, democratic, consistent and positively enforced.
Standard II: The teacher creates a classroom environment of respect  and rapport that fosters  a positive climate for learning, equity and excellence.

Standard III: The teacher promotes student learning  by providing responsive instruction that makes use of effective communication techniques, instructional strategies that actively engage students in the learning process, and timely, high-quality feedback.
Competency 008: The teacher provides appropriate instruction that actively engages students in the learning process.
This domain and competency means that effective instructional strategies are crucial to the student's learning process.  Expository teaching and convergent questioning allow the teacher to have control of the classroom and guided discovery allows the student to become engaged in the lesson where the teacher is more the guide.  By activley engaging the student in the lessons the teacher is promoting essential, higher order and metacognitive  processes of thinking.  Problem based learning also activley engages the student in the educational process by allowing the student to investigate and then pursue a strategy for solving a problem.

This competency means that teacher decisions in designing curriculum for their students needs to be oraganized and thought out.  Conceptual planning needs to take place to come up with  a unit plan and then a series of lesson plans need to be designed along the content aea and unit plan.  A rationale for the plan and a reflection asking why this is important needs to be performed.

Designing Instruction
This competency, in a nutshell, lets teachers know that they are not alone in designing curriculum for their class. Components of the objectives are that a behavior must be observable.  The condition to which the behavior will occur is the next component and finallya criteria for assessment must be identified. Also, national goals and objectives need to be met when designing the curriculum in the content area to be taught. The State has their own broad objectives for student achievement and the district and school may have further needs that need to be addressed in reaching their goals for the students.
