| These monks were made from a cutout of a 2x2 inch block of basswood. See instructions and outline below. They are finished in acrylics, coated with an antiquing solution, and sealed with Deft Wood Sealer, three coats, bagged between coats. The first is about 8 inches tall. The second is about 6 inches tall. Clothes, face, hair, and finger detail was wood burned for better definition. Mittens are frequently used to simplify carving, but hands are good practice pieces. | |

The profile is cut on 2 adjoining faces of a square basswood piece. Size and length of your choice. These monks were cut with the face on the corner opposite the curved surface. I.E. the lower left corner. A hooded monk can be cut from the same blank if the face is cut on the curved surface corner with the hood on the longest corner.
