Just think of how complicated life is with just two. Now toss in a third, different from the male and female sexes that we know. Let’s call this third sex, A-male (Like A-sexual, but lets assume this A-male is not :-p). As for the genitalia this A-male has, is irrelevant to this discussion. A-male could have both or neither for all I care, it’s not the topic.
The possibilities are endless for how this would affect daily life. Assuming that one sex could be with one of the other two sexes (since I’m a male, this shall be done from my point of view to make it easier to describe), it would make the dating range a lot more open. Let’s now assume the population is fairly evenly divided between the three different sexes. Instead of a male only have 51% of the population to choose from, a male now has 66% of the people to choose his mate from. And the third sex effectively makes everyone bi, since you have two choices right from the beginning. (I’ll do my best to not write how this would affect the gay and lesbian population, as I am not one of them, nor do I want to upset people who read this...).
This A-male would also change the way the bathroom system works. A third stall would need to be made to accommodate the third sex. That would mean remodeling every building which has separate bathrooms for males and females. All laws and such would need to be revised to include the A-male. Marriage licenses would need to be changed, the Constitution... the whole shebang! I can’t even begin to imagine the effects of a third sex on the equality issue. Would A-males have more rights than males and females? Neither? You just can’t say...
What would the A-males look like? Would they look similar to one of the other two sexes? If they could look like either, it would make the dating scene quite a problem if you were just going after one sex or the other. Hopefully the A-male would have distinctive features so all the sexes could tell each other apart. (As far as I’m concerned, a third sex would be pretty disturbing. I’ll stick to the females ;))
And this is just one way of looking at it, what if it took all three sexes to have a child? It would revolutionize the bedroom! Single beds will become only a memory. Of course this is all speculation, as males and females can have children on their own just fine ;) A table for two is hard enough, a table for three would be near impossible. Ever hear the saying, two’s company, three’s a crowd? And then there is the problem if one can't make it due to illness or work. Would the remaining two go out and party? Like, "Sorry hon, but while you are busy bringing in money for the house me and A-male here are gonna go out for a night on the town." Yeah, that'll pass over real smoothly. Dancing would be quite interesting as well, imagine three people at once trying to tango or square dance!
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Stay tuned for the next installment ;)
