I remember the first time I ever met Jeff Bergstrom. It was a cold, rainey day at one of our events. I believe it was either late September or early October. Anyway, I love our Village events. It gives people the opportunity to come out, meet one another and enjoy a few moments of life together. I had walked from my house to where the event was taking place. I walked through a couple of times and then decided to go visit the guys from our fire department. I walked up to the rig and it seemed like no one was at the rig, that the rig was locked up tighter than a drum. I started to walk on, when someone rolled the window down and said of all things,"Boo." I replied, "Oh, there is someone with the rig." Jeff smiled and asked," Did I scare you." I told him, "No." I then introduced myself and told him how much I appreciated him and all the other fire fighters in our village. I then asked if they were alright. He nodded his head and replied, "They were fine." I made a comment on the weather and then asked if they had eaten anything yet. He said they had and that they were good for the time being. I then asked if I could go and get them something to drink like coffee or pop. He shook his head no and replied," We're fine, really." I told him alright and then told him I'd be walking by often, if they needed anything to let me know, that I'd be more than happy to do what I could. He told me thanks and I said goodbye. As I was walking away I heard him yell,"Peggy." I stopped, turned, walked back to the rig and he said,"Just testing you. Talk to you later." I walked away with a smile on my face. From that time on anytime I'd see him, I would smile and wave at him.

This isn't a picture of our stone park fire fighters, but, it is a picture that will always remind me of the times that my husband and I would be out and about. We would see the Stone Park fire engine parked on the corner. The guys would be flushing out the hydrants or doing some kind of training exercises. This one day my husband was out and about. We saw the Stone Park fire engine on the corner, fire hose all spread out and water everywhere. We pulled up to the stop sign, my husband rolls down the window and said to them, "Giving free car washes today?" Jeff was the one who replied," Not today. Today we're charging." My husband would reply,"Ah, shucks, today I'm broke and my van really needs a wash." Jeff replied something, but, I didn't hear what he said. My husband would say,"Oh well, maybe next time. Talk to you later." Jeff would smile and wave good bye to us. The last time we saw Jeff alive was the 20th of april. He, Ricardo and the rest of the crew were with the rig on the corner. My husband and I were out and about, stopped and teased them about free car washes. A time that I will never forget. He brought a smile to our faces. I'll never forgett teasing him about free car washes and him teasing us back. I just won't.

Picture of the fire fighters raising the flag will always remind me of the day I showed Jeff the t-shirt I was wearing. On the back of the t-shirt was the picture of the fire fighters raising the flag. He really liked the t-shirt and I believe he called me a good girl for wearing it. A very special moment for me. It really made my day. I'll never forget it nor will I ever forgett Jeff Bergstrom. His memory will always live on in my heart. He was truely very special.
