| Shots, shots and more shots! Finding a knowledgeble doctor to help coordinate the medical portion of your trip is important. It just so happens we have one of the nations leading travel/wilderness M.D.s living in our area (you know, the wilderness mecca of Northwest Indiana). Dr. William Forgey of Merrillville, Indiana has written several books (check the books link) on the topic and was a wealth of information. Shots we took: Tetanus (update if needed) Polio Hepatitus A Hepatitus B Japanese Encephalitus We started six months prior to our departure date. The Hepatitus B requires boosters taken up to six months after the first. It is possible to get boosters while traveling, but it is nice to have the shots completed. Dr. Forgey completed our International Certificate of Vaccination record (yellow card). This will be required for admittence to some countries. Pills, pills and more pills! We will taking an extensive medical kit. This issue is kind of like insurance. If you do not have it you will need, if you have you will not need it. We plan on taking it with the hope we will not need it, but will be able to help other travelers out if necessary.
