A Jungle Walk

We leave, headlamps beaming
"Turn left," says Chris and you're on your way
From Tonsai to Railay
Brad first then I keep
Up, Up, Up. . .
The insects blaring then stop as we pass
Imagination alive as I look around
What was that?
A snake, a monkey, a lizard,
Or only a vine?
My boots hit the roots,
and I try not to whine.
My protector starts down and I close behind
Hands out like on a balance beam-
I start to descend.
"You're such a girl!"
I hear from below
"I'm trying my best," my muttered response.
The creatures watching
Amused by the show
As the two, again joined go
down the path
To their bungalow.
