Date from July 16th: I created a third page to the site, its my skating video review, which will be added the most since I will be updating with recent videos I have seen. I havn't gotten one skating picture of any skaters, no one, not even ONE! History: Rodney Mullen was born in Gainesviile Florida. Rodney Mullen as a young child was eager to skateboard, but his father was a dentist, and he treated someone with head trauma, and was opposed of him skating. His father was finally convinced to let him skate but only if he wore full pads, and a helmet, but once he gets hurt he would have to stop. One thing that Rodney like skating for was because there were no coaches involved, and when you do it alot thats all you can think about, and you get really good. At age 11 his family moved to a farm outside of Gainesville Florida. With his nearest neighbor 2 miles away, Rodney was in near isolation, and all he had was his board, and his garage. In this time he did tricks that involved only doing on the ground, and would soon be known as flatground skating. In July 1979 Rodney created most of his moves, and was one of his most creative times for skating. In 1980 Rodney entered his first contest ever, and won first place. In a later competition, at the Oasis competition he would have to give up skateboarding forever. After he won and got back from the competiton the magazines, and sponsors started to call his house. His dad said hey look these people are throwing money at you, and I will let you keep skating for the while, but this is only temporary. His first video premiere was in the bones brigade video, made by Powell Peralta. In 1986 Rodney went on tours, for parades, competition, and TV shows. Rodney Mullen had almost given up skating for college. But his friends encouraged him to keep skating, and he became a partner of World Industries. He made his second skating appearance in Rubbish Heap in 1989. In 1990 Rodney's boards would be disconnected and would have to give up college because he was the team manager, which he never wanted to be. A man named Mike Ternasky made a team called Plan B. Ternasky knew that he could convince Rodney to street skate, so that Rodney could get back into the skating industry. During the time of Plan B, Rodney starred in 3 videos. The Questionable Video, Virtual Reality, and Second Hand Smoke. In 1994 Mike Ternasky died in a car accident, he lived from March 4, 1966 through May 17, 1994. Rodney described him as a person who could lift you so high, and thats why Plan B was what it was. The team soon fell apart, and Plan B was gone. Even though Ternasky was gone, didn't mean Rodney didn't have a skate carear anymore. Rodney went through this depression skating era. But after that Rodney Mullen joined up with Daewon Song, and they made their video Rodney Mullen vs. Daewon Song round 1. They didn't really have any idea on what they were going to call it or how to plan. Daewon described it as a video that was not planned what so ever, Daewon had a part Rodney had a part, and Daewon said, instead of waiting, lets just do this now. This video was such a great success that they made another video Rodney Mullen vs. Daewon Song round 2. Not many people know this but Rodney was the person who made todays modern skateboard, by rounding the tails of the board, for better pop. The first board that was made was called the Mike Vallery Animal Farm Board. One of the main tricks that rodney made was the flatground ollie in 1981. If all he did for skateboarding was creating the flatground ollie, he would still be known to this day. |
