WILL HE KNOCK ON YOUR DOOR NEXT YEAR????
On August 6th I received a surprise phone call from JERRY CARSON. His group of Bike Riders were just coming into Eugene for supplies for the next segment of their trip. (A change from the original plans when he started) He was calling from the Rest Stop pay phone up highway I-5. (Only 10 min. from the house) After finding out that they didn't need him until the next day I invited him to stay the night and sleep in a nice big bed instead of a sleeping bag. He said he would call me back in a few minutes. I waited for the call. It never came!!!!! Then all of a sudden, there he was, at my front door.
Well, we talked and talked and talked. I thought I was a talker. I don't hold a candle to Jerry. He said he was really quiet in school. I don't know about that!!!
What great fun to see classmates in a different light then when we were kids. Even though it was nearly 50 years later, I felt I knew Jerry even though I really just saw him walking down the halls to classes during our high school years. I thought he was kinda cute then and he's even quite handsome now. Check out the LONG HAIR....!!! He said he never has cut it since last years Bike Ride from Alaska to Florida. " Never had it this long before," he said. Maybe he will be coming your way one of these days....Invite him in......he's one great guy with a lot of guts to ride his bike across the U.S. each year. At 65 yet!!!! He's NO DEAD BEAT CLASSMATE FOR SURE........
