Fred Roth's Collection of Automated Antiques
Besides restoration of cars, the whole family has had a great
interest in automated antiques. I have restored many 40's Wurlitzer Jukes and traded some for other antiques we wanted in our collection.
One room in the house is set aside for a penny arcade with pieces ranging
from 1934 to 1974 electromechanical devices.
My Favorite piece in the entire collection is a 1914 Gables Automatic
Entertainer. It was the first successful Juke Box invented in 1904 by John
Gables. Every time it plays a selection, it puts a new steel needle in the
pickup automatically! A real feat for that era.
My wife's favorite piece is this 1880 Regina changer.
It is coin operated and plays 12 selections
We have a long front hall which I built when I added our new kitchen. It
houses nickelodeons and jukeboxes. The other side has an authentic wooden
Carousel horse, brass cash register and a Nelson Wiggens orchestrion.
