| Denny knows how to enjoy life! He has been going to Lake Shasta with family and friends since he was 19 or 20 years old. They go water skiing, go boating to explore the interesting parts of Lake Shasta. He has been to the Shasta Caverns many times, they are very large and full of beautiful rooms. He has been to various waterfalls, by parking the boat and then hiking back to them. One real pretty one is right across from this Anters Marina. (picture below) He says you can just boat up a short canyon and then hike, following this stream up the mountain for about a mile. There is about a 50' water fall coming straight off a cliff into a deep pond, that they go swimming in. Then they take the boats about 20 miles to near the Shasta Dam and hike back about a mile and there is a river coming down a big smooth high rock, that they pull themselves up with a rope and then slide down the shoot into a pool. He has been to Gold Hill, which was a mine surrounded by Lake Shasta when the dam was built. There was a smelter there, some old mining equipment and old buildings. You can only get there by boat! Then 2 years ago he saw that there were caves listed on the map near the lake, up the Mc Cloud arm. They finally found a sign and followed a trail up to the caves. It was main cave of about 50' by 50' and some adjoining ones. Classmate Tom Jandt and wife Tooki along with Jerry Jandt, Tom Garrison met a whole gang of them up there about 40 years ago. They had a great time, boating during the day and dancing to the jutebox music at night on the recreation area porch. They had more than 100 go up there, for one or two weeks-- all friends from Burbank. Denny says the fresh air and visiting with new and old friends is a great as ever! |
