Imagining History

Welcome to the web site for the courses of Jack Betterly

Emma Willard School, Troy, New York

"History is not a study of the past, however many times teachers may have droned this feckless platitude into your ears as you counted the panes in the windows or the flyspecks on the ceiling. The past does not exist. It is gone, gone, gone - forever."

ANCIENT AND MEDIEVAL WORLDS

RISE OF THE MODERN WORLD

The second year of the sequence concerns human history through 1350 CE to the very present.

THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD

A senior course using the Christian Science Monitor, Current History, Foreign Affairs, and similar periodicals.
