Beside this, Dr Visith made some comments. His assessment is that the village is not affected by a particular epidemic disease. He estimates that the villagers are neglecting basic care to children such as cleaneliness and early treatment of sick children. To him it is much of a surprise and he comments that is will be a long way before the villagers develop awareness on prevention and conservation of health.

French doctor's comments: I feel Dr Visith has done as good as he thinks. However, my feeling is that he remained in a "too professional" approach. I guess what was possibly expected was something a little bit more than professional, including an attempt to socialize with the villagers in order to create a more productive interaction. I assume that was the point in the "commitment" to spend overnight at the village which he did not fulfill (and does not hide it). Budget wise, this makes almost 2us$/patient which is quite high for local standards. This could be justified if for instance it could be combined with an effective dynamic towards sustainable prevention and conservation of health.
