Our next adventure happened that same night when we were looking for a place to eat dinner. After spending time looking around for the perfect restaurant (parents becoming a bit weary now) we stumbled upon a large outdoor restaurant with long tables and chairs and a huge buffet table laid out with great food. Thinking this was a beach type buffet we walked straight to the food table....before realizing we were crashing a private party! (it kind of explains the looks we were getting). We must have looked very hungry (eel is just not that filling) because soon some men approached us telling us to join in. We were embarrassed but I think hunger ruled this time and we sat down to a most enjoyable feast. Since we had decided to leave for Jejudo on Sunday we had Saturday to explore the neighbouring small isles. So Saturday Aug 24th we took an afternoon car ferry to the island of Sinju. Ten min later we docked and hopped a bus to anywhere (Papa had no clue as to where we were going but thought he would know when we got there). We stayed on the bus for the 30 min. stretch along the main (and only) road, crossing this small island. The Island was scenic, few farms and beautiful shores where we saw women digging for clams in the receded tide. The bus driver must have thought we were crazy, at every stop we would get the look of 'drop of here?' and papa would wave him on. The bus went to the end of the island and turned around. Papa then decided wed get off at a tiny village near the ferry. We walked around the 4 or 5 houses and one large eel processing plant until we finally decided to head back to the ferry. At this point my parents gave me my first hitch hiking experience (very safe, I might add for all the relatives who are a bit concerned about my well-being). Within the hour we were back in Wando and packing to leave on an early morning ferry to Jejudo. |
