Egypt and Jordan
Ancient history does not seam so ancient when you are visiting these countries.  Everything you learned in school is right there before your eyes.  What an amazing feeling you get when you are looking at the pyramids, staring up at temple walls covered with hieroglyphics, watching people farm along the banks of the Nile just as they did thousands of years ago, standing on Mt. Nebo where Moses led his people after 40 years in the desert, walking on the sands of Wadi Rum in the footprints of Lawrence of Arabia or gazing in awe at the carved city of Petra.  If you're wondering why we are in just about every picture, it's because we never wanted to forget this trip.
This is the temple of Dendera, one of the best preserved temples along the Nile
What do you think?
Ramses and Neferteri?
No, just us enjoying our cruise down the Nile.
We had never heard of Jerash before visiting Jordan but it was the most extensive ruins of a Roman city we had ever seen
What really surprised us was how close the Sphinx and Pyramids of Giza are to Cairo.  If we turned around and aimed the camera in the opposite direction you would be looking at a suburb of the city.
We took an early morning flight to Abu Simbal to see the Temples of Ramses II and his wife Neferteri, moved 60 feet up the cliffs forming the banks of the lake caused by the High Aswan Dam.
This photo gives you an idea of  the magnitude of the the statues behind us guarding the entrance to Luxor Temple.  They are immense.
Marker on Mt. Nebo where Moses pointed out the promised land to his followers.
The treasury building of Petra.
This city was not built, it was carved out of the walls of the surrounding cliffs.
The Step Pyramid of Saqqara, one of the first pyramids ever built by the Egyptians
Sitting in the shade.
Behind us is the desert of Wadi Rum.  It is said that Moses and Lawrence of Arabia both came through here.
