INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCOUNTING (CPA AND CMA) EXAMINATION CANDIDATES
To ensure that your evaluation is processed quickly, you must submit an application and all academic documents, as required. The following information applies to foreign-educated candidates who plan to take CPA and/or CMA examinations in the United States.
On the WES website you will find a list of all the state accountancy boards that accept WES evaluations. as well as helpful links regarding the CPA and CMA examinations.
We strongly advise that you verify all requirements, including those related to academic credential evaluation, with the state accountancy board to which you will be submitting your application.

My education was in a foreign country. How does that affect my certification prospects?
If you have received your teacher education in a foreign country, you must have your transcripts reviewed by one of the private evaluation services listed below before we can evaluate your transcripts.
By state law, you must have a bachelor�s degree and 120 semester hours of college credit for any of the standard certificates. A bachelor�s degree means the equivalent of a United States bachelor�s degree. Many foreign countries grant bachelor�s degrees after only fourteen years of elementary, secondary and college education; these degrees are not equivalent to United States degrees. Persons with such backgrounds will need to attend an Illinois college, complete an approved teacher education program and receive another bachelor�s degree. If your teacher training occurred during your high school experience or at a lower level, you will not be able to be certificated in Illinois unless you attend an Illinois college and complete a state approved teacher education program.
You must use one of the services listed below; we will not accept evaluations completed by other sources. The evaluation must be a detailed evaluation, listing each course you completed with its semester hours and including a statement of degree equivalence. You may forward copies of the original foreign language documents certified by the regional superintendent but you must forward the original foreign credentials evaluation to this office.
