Suedes first guitarist (also co-songwriter) Bernard Butler, walked out on the band towards the end of the second album. When this happened Suede remained as a group but as a mere 3. The Band replaced Butler with Richard Oakes a 17 year old kid from Dorset.
Simon Gilberts cousin joined the band, Neil Codling, to create a five and played as keyboard player and an occasional guitarist
