| Robert Nesta Marley 06/02/1945- 11/05/1981 He lived in Jamaica with his mother (his father left her shortly after his birth but did provide financial support), because of scarcity of employment they moved from St. Ann to Trenchtown to find work. It was here Marley was exposed to music where he liked such musicians as Fats Domino and Ray Charles. It was at 16 that he decided to become a musician. Jimmy Cliff introduced Marley to a record producer. In 1963 he created the wailers which featured Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh. 10/02/1966 Bob Marley married girlfriend Rita Anderson. In 1975 the original Wailers split and needing to fill the missing backing vocals Bob introduced the I-Threes (Rita Marley, Judy Mowatts and Marcia Grittiths). In 1980 Markley found that the bands manager had defrauded the band and after giving him a beating he sacked him. His health gradually got worse and on 21/09/1980 doctors found a brain tumour and gave him just a month to live. A tour had been scheduled and although his wife tried to 'suade him otherwise he wanted to continue. He performed a show in Pittsburgh but not long after this the tour was cancelled. He died 11/05/1981 in Miami Hospital and was buried 21/05 at the funeral was the Jamaican President and the Leader of the Opposition.
