This series is founded on the basis that Fry (a delivery boy from the 20th century is cryogenically frozen by accident on 31/12/1999 and is unfrozen on 31/12/2999.) The series follows him and the friends he makes- even in these advanced years he is a delivery boy for Hubert J. Farnsworth.
Farnsworth is a great great great (x however many) nephew of Fry's and upon meeting Fry is little short of 160 years old. Fry's best friend in the future is a robot called Bender who likes to sing folk songs and needs alcohol to function. Leela is the love interest and is a purple haired Cyclops who is quite tough and actiony. Zoidberg is my favourite character and is a giant Lobster. Hermes is a Jamaican limbo champion and Amy is an oriental character who attended university on Mars. Zap Brannigan is the suave self loving Captain to many ships guy who 'has it bad' for Leela and has a penchant for velour,and Kif is his assistant who is in love with Amy.
Futurama has halted in it production after the fourth season (much to fans distress!)

I'm not sure on my fave episode but it'll probably be between the Zoidberg mating episode and where Fry wants to 'set up home' with a mermaid.
