The Hawkins' grew-up in Suffolk and learnt guitar, Justin described his playing as "...white hot" but his brothers as "shit hot". The setup a band together that performed covers.
In 1997 Justin went to a technical college and Dan went to London hunting for a band to join which is where he met Frankie. Justin and Ed (who was a schoolfriend of Dan's) would visit them at weekends.
Essentially the band's founder is really Dan who is the person who virtually pulled it all together.
Their music has been pushed aside by many people as they see them as a parody of old rock music. Personally I think they've taken something old and made it their own.
*NOTE* I think (if memory serves) that Justin used to make up advert tunes.
