How I Feel About Being a Writer

Through the recent years of writing in my English classes, I have realized many things about my writing. I do not like writing because I feel intimidated from other students. I usually get average grades when writing essays. However, I usually don't get A+'s on my essays. I like to express my thoughts by writing, and I like to write freely. But my attitude toward assigned work is bad because I feel that I am being confined and can not express my true emotions on what I would really like to say.

I do not view myself as a writer. I mentioned before that I can express my emotions and feelings very well. In school, it is very difficult for me to become detailed in something that I am not interested in. I do not consider myself a writer because I feel that a writer should be well rounded in all types of writing. Not just in one type. If a writer can expand and become detailed about something that they don't care about, I would consider them a writer. However, in my perspective, I do not think of myself as a writer.

My best work in school has been my most recent. I had to write a sociology paper as a midterm. My strength is basically if I like what I am learning and writing about, I can write a long and interesting research paper or any other type of work. I was very much interested in the research paper I wrote. It was to determine if  heavy metal music encourages suicidal tendencies. Since this was something that I wanted to learn about, I researched and found the information I needed and wrote an excellent paper and I received a good grade.

My most difficult work was in my US History class. In this work for my US History class, I do not think that I put all of my effort into it. I do not think that I knew all of the information that was required to know in order to write the paper. So the essay ended up to be very skimpy and short. I have many weaknesses in writing. One of my weakness's is not getting detailed in something I am not interested in. Another weakness I have is vocabulary. I try to include new vocabulary in my work, but I usually find out that I did not have the right meaning in the sentence. This semester, I hope to improve on these things in this course.

I chose to take expository writing because my last English teacher suggested it to me. She said that it would be good course for be because it would help me improve on my vocabulary and that the course will help me write essays for college. This is very important to me because I would like to get into a good college and my junior year is very important to me and I would like a lot of practice with vocabulary for the SATs, and I would like improvement on my writing for my college essay. My expectation of this course is to be able to expand and become more detailed in my work. I hope that I will be able to improve with my vocabulary.
