Dear Mr. Sedaris,
My name is Jasmine. I am a junior at
I found your book to be very entertaining. I have never
read a biography before and I am thrilled that my first was yours. Your
memories, whether it had to do with your counting steps from school to your
house, or licking the light switches in school made me spit out my food from my
laughter. How did the licking objects come about? Your family
made me laugh the most because they reminded me of my own, except your
mother who was seen drinking with your school teacher. Your hitchhiking
memories were very comical as well. How long did you end up hitchhiking for?
Did you ever get into trouble with the police or someone you have encountered
along the way? I know that I could never do that, I
would be too scared and nervous of the person who picked me up. I mean you
never know what kind of the person they are.
I felt so bad for your sister, Lisa, when she was at the
golf course. "My sister Lisa became a woman on the fourteenth hole of the
Pinehurst golf course." It must have been humiliating for her, but again,
I really admired the way you can change the situations of things and make them
humorous. Do you still keep in contact or see Lisa and the rest of your
siblings?
The best part of your book to me is the way you can talk
about weird moments in your life that trigger the moments of my child hood that
I dont like to be reminded of and you change it to a comical memory. I think
that is one of the best qualities a humourous author
should have. I admire your writing style as I had never read a book before that
made me laugh!
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read
this letter. I would also like to thank you in advance for taking the time out
of you busy schedule to respond to my letter.
Sincerely,
Jasmine
