Argument Essay: SATs
SATs should not be
considered for college acceptance. College acceptance should be based on the classes
a student had taken or what type of student they are. The SATs can also put a
lot of additional stress on students.
The basis for college acceptance
should not be depending on how well you did on the SATs. The SATs should be
terminated. First of all, a students GPA should be what colleges look at. How
well students have done through their four years of high school should mean a
lot to colleges, however; it may not be enough. Colleges might need another way
to judge students whether it's the SATs or extra curricular activities. Also, a
student could have a high GPA but could be taking easy
classes which is unfair to the students that are taking more difficult
ones. Difficult classes can be very time consuming and stressful as well.
The SATs, being very time consuming
for studying and preparation, can be very stressful. Students have other tests
they must study for, such as the REGENTS. The SATs require too much preparation
and for some students can be very costly for preparation classes or tutors, however;
this is good preparation for college and getting used to having to spend a good
amount of time studying for tests and doing work. This time that is being used
for preparation could be used for other things, such as sports and
extracurricular activities.
There are also many other reasons
why a student may not do well on the SATs. Some students may be bad test
takers. A student may just be better with homework and class work; however,
then perhaps they shouldn't get into good schools if they aren't good test
takers. Student's better subjects may be social studies or science, which is
unfair because the SATs only consists of math and
verbal. But math and verbal are always needed in any job profession. The SATs
are also fair because it is just an equal measurement of all students in the
