Jeremy Monteiro and Michael Veerapen Piano Duo Concert
with guest appearances by Alemay Fernandez and Riduan Zalani
1 & 2 Aug 2008, 8pm
The Chamber, The Arts House
Set in the interesting ambience of the Arts House, Singapore's jazz maestro Jeremy Monteiro and Malaysian's piano virtuoso Michael Veerapen put up a spectacular concert, performing jazz standards like Giant Steps to their very own compositions Struttin' on Sukhumvit (Monteiro) and New Joy (Veerapen). Joining them on stage were Alemay Fernandez on vocals and Riduan Zalani on percussion. Fernandez, an upcoming vocalist who recently emerged in the music scene, mersmerised the audience with her soulful vocals in the tunes Lush Life, Secret Love and Teach Me Tonight while the young exciting Zalani captivated the crowd with his incredible percussion techniques and intriguing solos on the pandeiro which made the simple Brazilian-like tambourine sound like a full percussion set in Chick Corea's composition Spain. The set ended with encore piece Over The Rainbow re-arranged in a Latin-like style, which the audience enjoyed very much and which left a smile on everyone's faces.
