| We headed off right away to our first destination, which was the Temple of Heaven. This is a temple where the emperors used to go to worship heaven. They were of the belief that the emperors were the sons of Heaven and would return their when they died. It was quite an amazing site - absolutely preserved in its architecture. There was one area which had a circular stone wall around it - called the Echo wall because if you stood at one side and a friend stood at the completely opposite side you could have a conversation by simply talking to the wall (and this was not because the circle was only one metre around!!). It was quite amazing. Marie and I also got to stand on the stone they claim is the centre of heaven! Guess we got closer than any of you have so far!! :) |
