| So there is always hope for civilization on the airwaves. More likely, though, the mask of comic irony will stay firmly in place, and viewers will be asked to feel they're part of some big snicker. Then, whenever Kilborn takes his leave--six months from now, six years, 10 years or 20--we'll be as indifferent to his fate as he is to some desperately terrified refugee in the Balkans.
