Craig: Yeah, well it's...you know.  Sure.

Julie: And then, I'm sure even when you play it safe you get the viewer mail who probably doesn't think, you know, there's always someone out there who doesn't think that you're playing it safe.  Am I right?

Craig: Yeah.  That's...that's the joy of the job is you have to bother some people.  That's why I got into the business to irritate some people and then entertain the masses.  Right?

Julie: Then you know you're doing your job.

Craig: Yeah...yeah.

Julie: Um, you know, for the first... you've been on 4 years as host of The Late Late Show since you took over for Tom Snyder.  And, congratulations because for the first time you took your show on the road.  To New Orleans for the NCAA.  How was that?

Craig: It was a... they say going on the road's a lot of work (clip is being shown of "Girls Please Don't Go Wild").  Uh, there we are on Bourbon Street.  Uh, it was a special thing called "Girls Please Don't Go Wild."  I don't think you'll show the entire clip.  Yeah.  Where I made them keep their shirts down.  Uh, it's the old-fashioned, midwestern roots in me.

Julie: Yeah, I think it's reverse psychology because when you walk the st...Bourbon Street asking women to keep their shirts down and not flash you...

Craig: Right.

Julie: What ended up happening, Craig?

Craig: You know, I'm just there to help.

Julie: (laughs) They ended up flashing you.  When you say don't...

Craig: Yeah, but for a moment there... I don't know, there's something exciting about having it go down as opposed to up.  If it's already...

Julie: (laughs) It has to be a tube top if it's going to go down as opposed to...

Craig: Well, if it's already up then you can have that long conversation trying to get them to go down.  When they flash you, it's only a few seconds and that's...no one wins there.

Julie: This is morning television.

Craig: I'm sorry.

Julie: Do you know the title of this show is loosely based on the title of your show?

Craig: Yeah, because if you watch, uh, the end of my show which is late...late night... I, uh, I say "Stay tuned for The Early Show."  I say it all the time because I'm a team player.  There's not a bigger team player.  There are two guys, Ted Danson and then Kilborn as far as team players for CBS.

Julie: And why is Ted Danson a team player in your...'cause he says, "Watch The Late Late Show?"  I think...

Craig: No.  He does the show all the time, but he's always there for CBS.  He'll do specials, he'll do Becker, he'll do something else after Becker.  Yeah, he's good people.

Julie: You have been a sportscaster.  You were on SportsCenter on ESPN.  You used to host The Daily Show, now The Late Late Show and now you're adding, um, movie star?

Craig: No, no, no.  Well, movies, I wouldn't use the word "star."

Julie: Yet.

Craig: Uh, but they, uh, the director of the movie Old School, Todd Phillips, likes our little late-night program and he just threw me a bone and gave me a character.  (clip of Old School is being shown while Craig is talking.)  Uh, there's Vince and Will...

Julie: How fun was that?

Craig: Uh, it's, uh, it was enjoyable.  You know how they say movies are tedious, uh, 'cause you sit around your trailer?  The fact that I was taping The Late Late Show at night, they couldn't keep me around very long.  So then I just did my scenes and got out of there.

Julie: Craig Kilborn, always a pleasure talking to you.
