1978 VW ADVENTUREWAGEN
I bought this van from a couple in Montgomery in 2003.
I wish every day I still had it. I loved this van. The guy I
bought it from, Ron. Had brought it back from Germany when he was in the military. He had bought it from another
military man who had shipped it over. I'm hoping that one day I can get it back.
The 12/110 volt refrigerator works on BOTH 12 & 110 volts.

The two burner propane stove WORKS.

The propane heater also WORKS. I had the regulator on the 2.8 gallon propane tank replaced in January right before a trip to Cloudland Canyon, GA.

The sink is stainless steel with a goose neck faucet. The original fresh water tank was removed by the previous owner. I bought some 6 gallon tanks from Walmart to install but never did. The water lines run directly from outside shore hookup to the faucet. However, the hoses need replacing (16" hoses bought at Home Depot) I am throwing in some. I haven't had a chance to do any extensive investigation into the holding tank (app 10-12 gallon). I have a drain hose for it that came with the van.

I have replaced the interior dome lamps on the rear pillars with marine grade fixtures. The overhead 12volt flourescent lights need the bulbs replaced (JC Whitney has some for $15 each)

The cabinet countertops are original and were made from partical board with formica on top. Well I live in the Gulf Area and the humidity has caused the final aging to take place. The counter tops will need replacing. I was considering solid surface like corian or marble. The sizes can easily be bought from scrap pieces at a local contractor who does residential kitchens with this material. They cut out the sink and have that piece left and sell it CHEAP. I was in the process of waiting on a job to be done to I could scoop up the sink cut out of a huge antique ceramic sink.

The rear seat upholstery is in original shape and folds down to make the double bed. There is a plywood piece, covered in the ORIGINAL upholstery and hardware, that
folds out from the rear cargo area to hold the NEW 5" foam matress I bought in place.

There is an upper bed frame that would hold a decent size person. It slides back to reduce its overhang while not in use. The plywood used may need replacing in the not too distant future. I used in for storage of the 5" matress and blankets. My daughter sleeps up there and loves it. It has a rear window with screen that slides open for ventilation.

The cabinets are stock. I am leaving the plate, cup, flatware set I bought for it from Target. Sorry my cook ware isn't staying. A great place to find cookware is a thrift store (Goodwill or Salvation Army) I am reinstalling the original digital alarm clock. I am replacing a resistor on it and hope it fixes it. The cabinet door pulls are all carved wood.

I have the floor covered in really nice carpet remnants from a beach house we carpeted. I have more so I will replace it so you'll get the new carpet.

The front seats are in the normal VW shape. They need an overhaul. Covers cost about
$150 and new pads about $75. So for about $225 you can ride in comfort. I've driven a VW van since 1995 so I'm used to it. And these are in better shape than "the Pickle's" seats are so Im OK. At least I'm not getting stuck in th butt by the springs while riding to work.

I have a DVD, MP3, CD Player I was going to put in it so I could listen to MP3s and so Hannah could watch Pooh Bear when we went on trips, but its staying with me. For about $180 you can buy one too at Circuit City.
WHATS INSIDE:
WHATS OUTSIDE:
Original Paint with rust spots here and there. HOWEVER, 95% of the rust spots are only topical. I had planned to do the body this winter when camping season was over for me cause I HATE cold weather. There is only a couple of areas that will need any body work other than the entire sandblasting and repainting job needed. By the rear passenger wheel house, where one of the owners obviously got a flat and it slapped the body a couple of times. Also where the rear bumper meets the body and the frame. And last place I remember is where the radio antenna was mounted has worked out a little hole.

The horn sounds sick, but I got another one the other day from Everett's in Mobile. Just havent put it on yet.

ALL lights WORK properly. Including the backup lights. Imagine that!

Windshield wipers WORK and have new blades and a fresh coat of RAINX. The winshield was replaced about 2 years ago with a new seal in place too. No visible rust around the seal either.

The door windows look good. AND the original  scrapers are intact but show their age of 25. Both vents look OK and work, but the driver plastic knob is missing.
Heater boxes are in good shape, but are not installed. I put straight pipes on her the other day. Sounds like a Harley.

The other rubber looks good except for the rear side windows. But they do not show any signs of leaking. The upper windows in the camper leak slightly in the corners but can be removed and siliconed back to stop the leaking according to the local RV dealership.

The upper fiberglass top will need treatment when the paint job is applied and shouldn't be too time comsuming according to my paint and body guy. (no leaks either)

The airhorns were powered by the alarm system which has been removed so they have been left until replacements san be purchased. (JC Whitney airhorn price ranges $25-$250)

The roof vent works fine and DOES NOT LEAK.

There is a place to plug into 110v shore power under the driver seat. The water connection is outside behind the driver door.

I have installed a second battery and a marine grade battery switch to select either or both batteries.

I have also installed a 110v Schumacher 6 amp/ 12volt battery charger. Which charges the batteries and provides 12 volt power when pluged to shore power.
Engine: 2litre with weber carb. Dual port intake  Bosch plugs, coil, wire set, cap, rotor button, and points. High power fuel pump and cleanable fuel filter.
Tranny: original with new throw out bearing and spring installed last week.

I replaced the driver side front rotor and brake caliper soon after buying it.

Tires are original spec size and are in good shape as is the spare. I also have the original
jack and lug wrench.

I recently replaced both CV joints on the driver side and the CV boots on both sides.

Recent mechanic inspection of the wheel bearings reported them in good shape.
As was the front disc brake pads and rear drum shoes.
