The police of the community were incompitant in the investigation. There were other suspects that had more evidence linking them to the crime. In my opinion, the person guilty of the murders of Christopher Byers, Steven Branch, and Michael Moore, was none other than John Mark Byer, Christopher's step-father. There are several things that would point fingers at him. The murders seem to be committed by someone that the boys trusted. John Mark had admitted to being abusive towards Christopher in the past.
Another suspect that the police should have followed up on was the man covered in mud and dirt at the restaurant near the place where the boys were found.
I am not going to sit here and push what I believe. The point is that Damien and his friends did not do it, and there is no reason to believe that they did.
