Jayme's Diary
Jayme had been a very healthy baby until her first ear infection at 9 months.  She continued to have ear infections every 2-4 weeks after that initial one.  We had talked about tubes but didn't persue that.

The week of March 1, Jayme was very sick.  She had a fever of 101-103, coughing and vomiting. We had noticed a lump in her abdomen,  We seen her peditrician who diagnosed her with another ear infection and an abnormal chest x-ray.  We brought to his attention her lump.  He thought it was her spleen just being enlarged due to infection.  We didn't pursue.

Jayme was feeing better by Tuesday the following week so she went back to daycare Wednesday.
Friday we received a call from daycare saying Jayme was vomiting and had a fever of 102.  I immediateley called her peditrician.  He was not in but his partner was.  His nurse told me Jayme had another virus and not to worry.

That Saturday we were able to get her into a new PCP office who took one look at her and questioned her jaundice and pale color.  She was also concerned about her abdomen.  She asked us about a family history of Cystic Fibrosis among other things.

She ordered lots of labs and an abdominal US to be done Monday, March 15 at Vanderbilt Children's Medical Center in Nashville.

We went to Vanderbilt at 11:45 for Jayme's ultrasound.   We didn't wait long at all, they were very prompt.  The ultrasound tech told me the radiologist would be in to take more pictures.  She said this was normal procedure.  The radiologist came in and started asking questions if Jayme was adopted or if she was an inpatient.  I started getting very scared and asked if something was wrong with her spleen.  She said her spleen was fine, she had something very large coming from her liver and crossing her whole abdomen.  We would need to do a CT of the abdomen and chest, NOW.
