REAL LIBERTY

The events of September 11th have brought up a range of issues, from tightened security to a war which we have to fight. While the country has remained basically united, some of the American spirit that was shown during the weeks and months after the attacks has somewhat faded. People said they will do anything to make our country safer, but have a problem with getting searched without having their lawyers hold their hands . There was an entire movement to tighten security, however the change is happening too slowly. Then there is the detainees in Cuba, not long ago some civil rights leaders had the gall to remark the detainees weren’t getting the treatment they deserved! I wonder how many of those people lost love ones in the attacks? We have a clear goal, to rid the world of terror! Sure we can send troops to disable terroristic regimes and we say we are in this for the long haul. However when we don’t see bin Laden’s head being paraded around Washington, we question the effectiveness of our government and it’s approach to the war. Folks also realize there are practically hundreds of thousands of people that would like to see our country destroyed. America has said it has changed since 9/11, the question is has it accepted it? After the attacks President Bush’s presidency took on a new role. He promised the country would rise above this tragedy like it has done many times before. People cheered him everywhere he went and he did go all over the country to rally Americans. His approval rating went through the roof as he promised justice for those who had love ones die in the most tragic events ever witnessed on American soil. There were dozens of trips to Ground Zero to pay tribute to those who lost their lives trying to save others. Walking among the emergency service and construction volunteers our President, showed the world this horrific act will never be forgotten! You know it’s almost laughable that people say we are overly aggressive. Maybe they should get their facts straight. Some claim we don’t have the right to meddle in affairs so far away. You really think so? Well here’s one if this is the case then we shouldn’t help anyone, including Israel! I really can’t stand folks who want us to support Israel, but don’t want war with Iraq. They are one in the same to me. Look at it this way Saddam attacks Israel, the Jewish Americans except we help their home land! I hate to break this to people, but that is the case. You would hear those same people marching in antiwar protests demanding we help our allies in the Middle East! Kind of funny if you think about it. Comparing this to the Vietnam War is a grave mistake. I am not going to go into the Vietnam War, truthfully I don’t know a lot about it. What I do know is I would have more then likely been against it. I do think other countries should fight their own battles. However let’s not label these times “Vietnam II”, like some extreme left wingers are claiming. I’m going to play Devil’s Advocate, let say we stop preparing for an attack on Saddam. Then an Iraqi loyalist releases some Anthrax right in the middle of Times Square on New Year’s Eve. Ten bucks says those who criticize Bush over this Iraq thing go on the airwaves blasting Bush! How can he let this happen? Why didn’t he stop this? Sorry folks, you can’t have it both ways I don’t think there is a person on Earth, besides Saddam, who embraces war completely. I stay up at night thinking about if the draft were reinstated, my two brothers would be on the list. However then I think about a friend flying overseas on a plane that may or may not have a bomb on it just weeks after the attacks. Here’s the bottom line folks, we have to protect ourselves at all costs! The country has changed since 9/11 and we must change with it. While we don’t want to let the government to control us, we must not put a choke hold on it either. People have to realize, our country can be attacked again if we don’t take the right measures to protect it. Even though war is horrible, it is sometimes the only way to protect ourselves and our interests. Let’s not say these times are exactly like they were thirty years ago.
