I was born and lived in Dorset for the start of my life. Its a small town in the southern part of Vermont on Rt. 30. For a small town, it has so much to offer. I am listing what was there when I was a kid and thats many years back, I am 57 now. I am adding my own thinking about each but its the facts I know. There are so many more places there but I don't know anything about them. The Town has grown so much but many great people live there. Its a small town that can offer something for everyone. From old inns to stay in, to old country stores to shop in, to old marble quarrys to swim in, to a great playhouse to see the best plays, you never will be lost for something to do. There are many farms and a lot of old country roads to take a great walk on.
After being there a short time, you will see what I mean. Its a town that you will want to live in. If you do, there is the best real estate broker in New England that will be glad to help you get the best buy on a great house. She works 25 hours a day and 8 days a week so nothing ever gets past her. Elena Atwell is honest and will get you the best deal out there. Her hobby is horseback riding, and this lets her find all the fields and great views that Dorset holds. So to me it's still working to find you that great house lot to build on. Elena Atwell can be found through Dorset Village Properties 802-867-5300.
H. N. Williams Store is a store that if it could talk, it would have so many great stories to tell. As a kid I would go there on a Saturday night hearing stories being told by the old timers. We would be sitting around a wood stove. They have everything you can think of from food to nails, a grain room with everything you need to feed a horse to a dog. They have tools and the best work clothing made. If you need shoes to sun glasses, they have it. The store is made up of rooms that each hold a new find, so look around in the best country store there is. I am sure you will find a buy there and when you go to pay, don't look for the cash register. Just look for an employee and see what happens.
When I was in Dorset,I used to swim in the Dorset hollow brook or the old marble quarry. These are all spring fed so the water is very clean but also very cold. Look for a place in a brook that has a rock dam and you will find people swimming there. Please understand this is all on private land so know if it ok to swim there before you do. The marble quarry is very deep and be sure you know how to swim. There are no life guards, so be careful.
